So I'm looking forward to finishing up building my rig, and I notice while reading through the mobo manual that I should probably get DDR3 memory that is listed on Asus' qualified vendors list (QVL).
Was disappointed to see no 3x4gb kits listed, as I'm wanting to get the most performance out of this as possible. (Already purchased cpu: Intel I7 980X gulftown). I'm hoping since this board has been around for a little while, that the manual is outdated. But I'm having trouble locating an updated QVL on Asus website. Keep running into dead links and search engines not helping much.
As of right now, I'm looking at either a Corsair dominator 12gb (3x4) kit; or a Kingston 3x4gb kit... Both are listed on Newegg for $470ish currently.
So my questions... Am I blind and have overlooked a website for a recent QVL? Would it be ok to just get either of the kits I'm looking into and hope for the best? And if I can't get decent performance memory in a 3x4gb kit, is there much if any of a performance loss in putting in a 6x2gb kit instead?
Sorry for the longwinded post, and appreciate any and all feedback/suggestions!
