Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Clearance Question

Hi All,

First time posting on these boards, I don't sign up to these things usually but always appreciate the content and reading of articles. So thank you.

I once wrote in to Anandtech about SSD's but didn't get any response :(

I have been reading around about the Asus P6T Deluxe motherboard and have flagged "clearance" as being a potential problem.

It will be my first time overclocking but I am not really concerned about the overclocking aspect as I work in IT and have done a fair bit of reading.

What I know is I need a decent HSF combo to cool my i7-920 to about 3.6GHz for now and maybe a bit more in the future.

So my 3 primary choices are:

Thermalright TRUE 120
Prolimatech
Thermalright TRUE Cogage

I have not decided whether I will go push-pull setup yet but I would like to have the option if possible.

I know there are others but I don't really want to get a debate of different HSF combo's happening but if you have some reasoning behind why another HSF setup might work better feel free to suggest it.

At this point, I am thinking of going for the Thermalright TRUE 120 as I have read the Prolimatech is a bit bigger and they are performing on par.

So with the Thermalright TRUE 120 installed on the Asus P6T Deluxe V2 (Don't think the V1 vs V2 makes a difference to this question) can I populate all 6 DIMM slots with Corsair Dominator RAM or will there be a clearance issue? Can I also use the Corsair RAM fan module as well or is this also going to be a clearance issue?

Is this mounting the HSF vertical or horizontal or does someone know if both will work with the 6 DIMM's? As placement of the HSF for me I can go either way.

Also somewhat relevant I have read that the P6T heatsink setup can house a fan to aid in cooling I think it's optional, I think I also read that can be a potential clearance problem when looking to do a push-pull setup? If someone knows if that is required/necessary/good to have and whether that will be a clearance problem also please let me know.

Thank you kindly.

Welcome to the board. I recently built a similar system a couple of months ago. I don't think you'll have any problems with clearance with your memory. I use Super Talent ram, but they are similar in height to the Corsair you are referencing. Here are some pics of my build to help aid you:

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the information.

I am looking to probably use the Noctua P-12 fan's as well, well at least 1 for the push at the moment.

With that installed do you believe you can add 3 more RAM modules and not have the fan touching them?

The Noctua is 25mm so it should be standard and the guys on hardocp said it should have no issues with all 6 DIMM slots filled.

Also are you running push-pull scenario?

I am thinking about using a P-12 for the push as it has good static pressure, however for the pull is static pressure so important or would it be better to mix a different fan for the pull?

Thanks.

I am not running a push/pull config so I only have the one fan for the heatsink. My main objective was quietness. The pics (above) show the clearance of the heatsink and fan. As you can see from this overhead pic there is no interference from the fan on the memory modules. You may populate all six slots without worry. :)

Thanks lopri. I put up a detailed post about my build on another forum where I'm an admin back in August. We use vBulletin and now that AT has switched it makes things so easy. I just had to up the images to a free host. I've been using Windows 7 for the last two months and love it. This pc is so sweet. The only thing I want to do eventually is get an SSD. I have thought of adding another 6gb of ram with memory being so cheap, but I'm in no hurry.
