Asus P6T Deluxe onboard sound... Broken?

Hey all, I just finished up a new build for a friend with the P6T Deluxe and had it all working... right up until I updated Windows XP x64 via Windows Update. Then the sound quit and I can't get it back. No start up sound, no shut down sounds, no game sound, no Windows Media Player sound... They all worked before. The install included SP2 so I know it wasn't that. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver four or five times and that's not doing any good either. I'm at a loss on this one.

Any idea what/which update from Microsoft Update broke it and how to fix it? I'd really appreciate it! My friend wants his new system but I can't deliver it without sound!

Check device manager to see if the sound device is there. If it is there and doesnt seem to work, try to disable it in device manager, and then re enable it afterwards. Also check to see if your bios to see if its disabled by any odd chance.

I got it fixed last night finally. It seems what happened is when I went to Windows Update and installed them the Windows High Definition Audio (UAA) plus the ATI HD audio ate everything. There were no other sound options available. It took a format / reinstall to get it up and working again. This time I did not install the UAA update from Windows Update and all it good so far. I'm hoping it stays that way after I deliver the system!
