This machine has been running pretty well for probably close to two years but lately it's been complaining that the CPU is too hot. And twice now it's gotten in this mode where it just turns off a few seconds after I power it on. Doesn't even have time to complete the full post.
So after it complained last time about the CPU running too hot (69 - 72 degrees celsius) I turned it off to check the temp myself and nothing on the motherboard is hot.
The CPU heat sink is not even warm - the case sensor says the heat sink is at about 24 degrees celsius. (I shoved the case's temp sendor between the blades on the sink.)
And if I remove the fan and heat sink, the CPU is barely warm to the touch.
Is it possible that the MB temp sensor is bad? Or is this, perhaps, not really a temperature issue? At the moment, I can't turn my machine on. It just turns itself off after a few seconds without any error message. And it seems to me that it's been plenty of time to cool down if it even was running to hot.
Any ideas? Thanks.
J
