Is there any reason not to get the Gigabyte DS3 and instead go with the Asus? I was going to get the Asus specifically for the RAID 0+1, because NewEgg doesn't list that for the DS3, but after going to the Gigabyte website I saw that it really does have it and NewEgg was just wrong. I am planning on getting the E6400 and overclocking it.

Also, are all of the DS3's coming Conroe compatible out of the box? If not, what is the easiest way to update the BIOS without having another processor?

I think the Gigabyte is Conroe compatible out of the box and the Asus may not be. I could be wrong. I had a Pentium D when I first got my Gigabyte board and I picked up an E6400 a few days later.

From what I have read about the DS3 is that half the buyers have serious problems with the mobo and the other half have little to none. If you can get it to work its a good mobo. Many have said in reviews that the Gigabyte has serious RAID problems. May want to pass on the DS3 if wanting to use RAID. The ASUS is fine if its the newer BIOS mobo. If not then getting it updated is problematic. ASUS will send a new updated flashed BIOS chip now from what I been hearing but you have to pay for shipping. Unfortunately no way of knowing its BIOS version till you open the box. Retailers will not open and check for you neither.
