Asus P5W DH Deluxe How to Disable Onboard Audio for New Soundcard?

I have an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe based PC. I just bought a new Creative Labs X-Fi soundcard that I want to install. I've been using the onboard audio. What is the best way to shutoff the onboard audio? Do I just disable the HD audio in the BIOS? Do I remove the onboard audio card from the motherboard? Do I need to delete drivers in Windows?
