I put together a Quadcore system based on the Asus P5W last December. I can provide the rest of the specs, but I'm not sure they would matter.
It has been working great up until a month ago when two issues cropped up.
First, the onboard sound would intermittently stop working. Not on every boot, but maybe ever other or every 3rd boot. It would get to Windows and the "Add New Hardware" wizard would automatically pop up saying it needed to install drivers for my multimedia devices, however it could never successfully do so, even when I pointed it at the driver location directly and also tried manually selecting the driver.
I checked BIOS and saw that the onboard sound had disabled itself. I re-enabled it, and it worked again. A few boots later, it happened again and I had to go enable it again.
THEN, it happened and when I checked BIOS, it was still enabled. I scratched my head, rebooted computer, and it worked fine again.
Now it is to the point where when sound doesn't work, I always check BIOS, sometimes it has disabled itself, sometimes it hasn't. Sometimes just a reboot will fix it, sometimes it won't. Sometimes I can change audio from HD to AC97 and that fixes it.
Very intermittent and very weird.
Recently, my built in WiFi stopped working. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the driver, but it doesn't show up in Device Manager or Network Connections, and the app Asus provides crashes, probably because it can't locate the Wifi hardware.
Anyone else have this board seen this wacky behavior? Everything else works flawlessly; I game heavily and never crash or anything.
I was thinking of trying to flash to latest version of BIOS, but I don't understand how it would have worked fine for 7 months and then suddenly stop working. Worth a shot I suppose, just hoping to get some insight from some other geeks.
