Asus P5Q with double booting after a cold start (power unplugged)?

I used to have Abit IP35-E, and even with latest BIOS, it would double boot (start, stop, start) when the power's unplugged from the wall, and when overclocked. It would not have this when not overclocked.

I just realized that my Asus P5Q Deluxe is also doing this. I dont' remember if it's always been doing this, but it is definitely doing the same thing when I have the Q9450 overclocked at 3.2Ghz. Has anyone else encountered this? Maybe this was result of a single change I made in BIOS. I was almost sure it didn't do this last week.

don't know about P45 (but I assume that it's the same) but on P35 on the first boot after applying power from totally off it will do this as it sets the strap - it's an inherent chipset characteristic.

I have a P5Q Pro, not a Deluxe, but yes, it does always double boot the first time I turn it on after the PSU has been turned off or unplugged. Not something I'd really worry about.

Ah Ok, at least this is better than Abit IP35-E when it double booted no matter what, and while eventually somewhat fixed by BIOS updates, but still had some similar issues. Actually, with Abit iP35 Pro, the uGuru chip retained the strap setting, so it would never double booting even with power unplugged.

i owned a IP35-E also and the double boot issue was fixed with a bios flash so it would only double boot if the psu was shut off or unplugged from the wall. my P5Q-E does the same thing which i'm used to since my DFI DK P35 also did it.

just an intel safety measure and its up to board partners to decide if they want to incorporate a workaround like Abit did.

My P35-DS3R double-booted recently after I had to recover from a power outage (always have to go into CMOS and re-set my OC settings after a cold boot), but then my HD started making bad whining noises after the sudden power loss due to double-boot.

It's my opinion that the double-boot is extremely bad juju for HDs.

uGuru doesn't just retain the strap setting but somehow seems to take over/handle that function from the chipset which is why uGuru equipped mobos usually don't double boot.
