asus p5p800 heat problems

hello i have an asus p5p800, the black heatsink that says ASUS in white, is that the northbridge? well, i tried to touch it and it burned my finger... is it supposed to be that hot? well is there any way to cool that better? thank you very much

If the heat sink is hot, it means that it is doing its job. The question is why the chip is getting so hot.

Are you overclocking?
How many fans do you have in the case? Where is each?

i have prescott 3.2, dun think its E. i have a lian li v1000 plus with 4 120mm fans. 3 exhaust 1 intake

It is possible that there is no air circulation around your Northbridge and that results in it being too hot. If you are worried, you can use something like this to improve air circulation in your case.
