My GF built a new rig (well, actually, I built it, she just picked the parts she wanted), and we found that the SoundBlaster Audigy SE card she got does not have the proper connector on it for the front panel mic and headphone jacks. The riser card for this mobo's on-board sound (which is advertised as being some kind of "supreme" audio) does have the proper connector (AC'97/HDA), however.

I seem to remember that the on-board sound on some Nvidia chipsets (which this board uses) were supposed to be like actually having a full-fledged soundcard, which would not require CPU cycles for processing. (Unlike Realtek audio, which requires CPU cycles, and therefore you take a performance hit.)

Does anyone know if that is the case with this mobo? The way Asus hypes up the audio on this board, you might expect it to be like having real soundcard, but I just want to be sure.

Would you go with the on-board sound and return the SoundBlaster, or replace the SoundBlaster with another SoundBlaster which has the proper connector?
