So I removed the HS on the NB and what i think is the South bridge (correct me if I am wrong) to put AS5 on.

My questions is the regarding the the HS the heat pipes from the NB and the SB are connected to.

Are these HS, the ones that surround the cpu socket, there only to help cool the NB and SB are do they actually cool the tiny liittle chips that they sit on?

Underneath the HS that srround the CPU there are rubbery thermal pads.

Would it be bennificial to remove those pads and use AS5 on those tiny chips or should I leave the pads in place?

What is the function of those pads. I am assuming they are thermal conductive pads.

I figure that since I have everything off might as well put AS5 on everything that I can.

Thnks in advance for anyone that can help

I don't think you need to worry about taking these off to add any paste. These chips can run real hot with no issues. I have the same board. But, I am not going to take those HSs off.

Looks like we have a similar setup. I have this board with the E6600 and a Scythe Ninja Plus.

Thanks for the reply Mav. Since I didn't get any replys yesterday, I went ahead and and did the work last night. The Paste for the NB and SB, (if you can call it paste) really seem to suck. Felt like hard plastic and would chip off when I scraped at it with a credit card. Came off really easy though. Used nail polish to remove the tiny bit of residue. Well see tonight when I replace my P5B tonight. 🙂

In past Conroe mobos it was just the NB and SB that people pulled off to apply AS5. Thats all you should have to do as well IMO. Of course you could be the guinea pig and see how it works out. You may want to ask this question over on the XS forums. Those guys do more of this kind of modding than most people here. (and thats not a dig at the AT members)
