I'm part through building a PC for a customer (I'm posting from work), and I am having some major issues with getting Vista Ultimate x64 to install while the ram for the system is running at 800Mhz.

the system can always begin installing Vista but will bluescreen every time on the first restart "IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_EQUAL".

I have tried a second P5N-T deluxe with the same result, I have tried replacing the 2x 2gb Patriot PDC24G6400LLK ram with 2x 2gb OCZ OCZ2VU8004GK ram with the same results and 4x 1gb OCZ OCZ2P800R22GK ram with even poorer results.

I have even tried relaxing the timings right back to 6-6-6-18 and still no go. but if I set the ram to 667mhz or use 2x 1gb Corsair VS1GB667D2, Vista will install fine.

Any body know of any issues with the Asus P5N-T deluxe and 2x 2GB (4gb) of DDR2 800 ram and Windows Vista Ultimate x64.

the systems specs are as follows.

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650
Asus P5N-T deluxe (bios flashed from 0205 to 0703 on both boards)
Patriot 4GB PC2-6400 (2X 2GB)
2x Gainward Geforce 8800GTS 512MB (tried with both cards seperately)
2x WD 750GB SATA2 harddisk
Creative X-FI Elite Pro
Lite-On 20x DVD+/-RW DL SATA
LG Blu Ray combo drive 5X BD-ROM 12X DVD+/-RW
Coolermaster Real Power 1000W modular PSU
Windows Vista Ultimate x64 OEM

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know what a P5N-T has on it, but my P5K-E P35 chipset board actually installed Vista x64 with 8GB DDR2-800 RAM installed along with an 8800GT no real troubles.

The defect with 3GB+ memory referenced by the previous post is real, and I was surprised I didn't encounter it (but glad I didn't). I think it mostly affects certain SATA / PATA / RAID controllers depending on your chipset and driver for those items.

Try memtest86 overnight at DDR2-800 and the CPU at its target speed, etc. if memtest passes 10 hours and Vista doesn't install with the same hardware settings, I think it's a Vista problem more than likely.

I had exactly the same problem with the P5N-T (we won't mention the fact that it also destroyed 2 8800gtx's).

Try using an IDE DVD drive to install from I couldn't get any SATA drive to work properly with the P5N-T.

Odd you should mention this,I had the exact same problem.Vista 64 would get up to a % installed (saw from 0% to 89%) and then give me the error message after sitting there for 20 minutes pretending to install.I was installing from a NEC IDE DVD RW but my friend brought his LG IDE DVD RW and a different IDE cable and it installed at first try.

Decided to buy myself a ASUS D/L SATA DVD RW and had no problems since.

So if I was you I'd try replacing the IDE cable before starting to worry about the RAM.

Hope this helps somewhat,if not, sorry to have led you down a dead-end path ;)

edit: Just spotted you're already using a SATA DVD ....ignore me please and try using an IDE drive and see how that works out .

Here is my Newegg review on this board:

ASUS P5N-T Deluxe

Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: This is a very nice board, not perfect, but it is a good stable platform for any Intel-based system. I've also seen where SLI runs very well on it. The problems that many people face or have faced with this motherboard are all fixed with the latest BIOS. Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 (L2) @ 3.01 (430x7) ASUS P5N-T Deluxe 780i SLI (0802 BIOS) 4GB (2x2GB) G.SKILL DDR2-800 PQ eVGA 8800GTS 320MB @ 625/1500/1800 And I still think there is more headroom. Great product!!

Cons: The only problem I have had was installing Vista with 4GB and that was simple to solve... 1) Flash to the 0802 BIOS (which solves ALL the horror stories we've heard about with this board). 2) Install Vista with 2GB of RAM. 3) Install the Vista Hotfix (KB929777). 4) Install the rest of the RAM. Perfect since!! Not really a con of the board, it was Vista. Just thought I would point that out.

Other Thoughts: 1) Make sure you use the latest BIOS from ASUS. 2) Get the necessary hotfix to solve any other minor issue. I didn't buy this product from Newegg (I got it as a gift) but I did feel however, that some of these reviews were rather harsh. It is indeed a great product. Newegg is great, fast and offers quality service. I buy all my parts here.
