I just purchased an ASUS P5K (non-deluxe) with a Q6600 and 4 GB of Patriot DDR2-800. Yesterday I put it all together and tried to turn it on, The fans spun up and LEDs came on as per normal...and then after a couple seconds everything shut down, and then 'rebooted', stayed on for a few seconds, then 'rebooted'... seemingly for ever. I unplugged the graphics card, IDE connectors, most of the RAM, and tried a single RAM card in a few different slots, all with no effect. I also tried clearing the CMOS, even overnight, by following the instructions in the manual, and this also made no difference.
The power supply is a 425 W "Just PC USA" - probably a piece of junk but it worked fine with a different setup (a socket 939 AMD setup). Also, its EATXPWR connector has only 20 pins, but the motherboard connector has 24 sockets, could this be the issue?
Is the motherboard broken? Is there anything else to try?
thanks!
