Hi!

I have an Asus P5K-E WiFi mobo (BIOS 1012) wit a Samsung SH-S203 SATA DVD-RW unit.

When I boot a CD in the unit, there is a 20 second long delay. With every CD I tried. After the delay the CD boots and works fine.

This happens if I select the CD to boot with the BIOS boot menu (F8) or if I change the boot priority in BIOS setup to have the DVD unit on top.

The delay is after I select the DVD unit in the boot menu. I select "DVD uni TSST ..." with cursor keys, press ENTER, the screen is cleared (black) and the cursor blinks in upper left corner.
It is like that for 20 seconds. Then the CD boots normally.

Also Windows boots from the hard drive normally, without any delay. The DVD unit works in Windows also fine (both reading and writing).

Any suggestion ?

Regards,
David

There is an option in BIOS Setup under "AHCI Configuration" called
"AHCI CD/DVD Boot Time out". It was set to 15. I changed it to 0 and now the delay is gone :)
