 Hi, could anyone give me some suggestions on my setup?

I'm running,..
Q9450 - BX80569Q9450, 8x, 0.85-1.3625v, C1, 95w, max 71.04C - (air cooler Hyper2112)
P5E3 Deluxe - latest bios 1401
Corsair 4Gb (2x2Gb) 1600Mhz PC3-12800 TW3X4G1600C9DHX XMS3-1600 C9 DHX 9-9-9-24-2T 1.8v

...but i can't get them all to run at their default speeds! - I'm not to bothered about overclocking (as i favour stability and very low noise). That said it runs stable @3.2Ghz, but with slow memory.
- [Has anyone succesfully got their ram to run at 1600Mhz with a Q9450 on a P5E3 Deluxe ?]

Incidently, the bios & cpuZ (v1.47) report Dram volts @1.5v but AI Suite shows 1.8v (minimum selectable). Setting 1.8v in AI Suite set the bios to 1.5v, (if i set in bios to say 1.65 it won't boot).
Also Real Temp reports the cpu temp 5C lower than Core Temp & 2-3C higher than AI Suite, so depending on which is accurate my temp @2.4/3.2Ghz idle is some where between 29-40C and 50-60C stressed.
- [How do I tell which one is accurate?]

temperatures given below are from core 1 (which is always the hottest) but as i don't know which temp app is accurate i've put lowest-highest.

Ok, I started with all the bios cpu settings on Auto. It runs at idle @2.0Ghz (6x, 1.12v), stressed @2.67Ghz (8x, 1.192v) as expected. But I noticed the memory is only recognised (gpuZ) as PC3-8500 & runs @534Mhz 7-7-7-20-2T (fsbRAM 5:8) - of course at this speed everything is stable - I ran Prime95 for 2 hours all four cores maxed out, also ran 2 instances of Orthos (1 on cores 1/2, other on 3/4) for an hour - max cpu temp 44-52C

If I try Tuner-Auto, Dram-1600Mhz, & all other settings to Auto, the cpu runs at the same speed but its voltage jumps UP to 1.296v @ idle and DOWN to 1.272 under stress!!!, & the ram is still recognised as PC3-8500 but runs at 668Mhz 9-9-9-24-2T (fsbRAM 1:2).
- [Why is the cpu voltage higher at idle then stressed?]

If I try Tuner-Manual, FSB-400Mhz, Strap-333Mhz, and all other settings to Auto, the cpu runs idle @2.4Hhz (6x, still high @1.296v), stressed @3.2Ghz (8x, 1.272v), the FSB is 1601Mhz, but the ram runs at 400Mhz (fsbRAM 1:1) 6-7-7-20-2T (much better than the 9-9-9-24-2T rated for 1600Mhz)
- [shouldn't the ram be at 800Mhz? - Is this Quad Pumped ?]
- [I ran Prime for 3 hours - max cpu temp was somewhere between 45-56C].
- [at least this would suggest the cpu has no problem running @3.2Ghz (8x 400)].

The same settings but with Dram-DD3-1601Mhz gets the same results and ran Prime for 4 hours, everything ok so i shut down and went to bed. BUT the next day it wouldn't boot saying the overclock settings had failed. The only setting i changed was the Strap to Auto and rebooted. The idle cpu voltage dropped to 1.284v, and the memory appeared to be running correctly at 800Mhz (fsbRAM 2:1) 9-9-9-24-2T but it froze after about a few minutes while idle.

I've tried many different combinations of the following bios settings,..
Tuner - Manual (or Auto)
FSB Strap - 333Mhz (or Auto)
FSB - 400Mhz (or Auto)
Dram Freq - 1600Mhz (or Auto)
AI Twister - tried all settings
Dram voltage - 1.5v (or Auto)
All other settings left to Auto

...& this has got varied results and i've had it running at 2.4/2.8Ghz and 3.6/3.2Ghz both with 1600Mhz fsb, it boots and runs SuperPi, but in every combination with the ram @1600Mhz (800Mhz-fsbRAM 2:1) it freezes, sometimes after a few minutes at idle sometimes after about 40 minutes of Prime.

Could anyone give me some pointers ?

well reading down my post, in order,...
- Could anyone give me some suggestions on my setup ?
- Has anyone succesfully got their ram to run at 1600Mhz with a Q9450 on a P5E3 Deluxe ?
- How do I tell which one is accurate ? (temp - Real Temp, Core Temp, or AI Suite)
- How do I tell which one is accurate ? (volts - gpuZ, or AI Suite)
- Why is the cpu voltage higher at idle than stressed ?
- Shouldn't the ram be at 800Mhz ? - Or is this Quad Pumped at 400Mhz (in which case why are the timings so much better than specced ?)
- Could anyone give me some pointers ?

:)

well I've been tweaking for hours, numnerous reboots and stress testing, and I think I may have found a work round. Using the settings listed below I have it running at 2.4/3.2Ghz, with 1600Mhz ram. I ran Memtest for 4 passes (2hr 6m), and I've been running Prime 'Torture Test' for 50mins so far - all good, 57C, and silent.

It would appear that it is impossible to run this cpu AND ram at their default speeds on this mobo, you have to up the FSB to 400 and so the cpu will overclock, but it's stable, cool, and quiet.

I'll let Prime run for another 3 and a bit hours, and it's all good then i think thats the problem solved.

*** OH ah heck !! - crashed at 75 minutes (sigh) - gpuZ says cpu volts @1.312v, CoreTemp says 1.25v !!

Thanks - Sarah

this here.

also quad-cores have trouble running anything beyond 500 FSB(2000 FSB in intel's wording) 90% of the time.
