Alright start off here are my specs

Asus P5E x38 chipset

Intel dual core 3.16ghz

Corsair Dominators

280gtx

PSU

HDD's x2

Now the problem.

Horrible graphics stutter's, WoW seems to be the worst, used to only be just 1 game now its all, Left 4 dead, team fortress are some examples.

When running forward an things need to load will cause a stutter like my graphic's skipping forward or animation will stop come back then stop again an come back happens when theirs a lot of players, npc, etc are trying to load

Animation stops or whatever last 0.3 secs each one its really noticeable

Also seems to be getting worse.

Things i have done:

Downclock my ram to 800mhz

Set ram voltages 1.96-2.00v on the count of this board overvolts by .20 which kinda pissed me off.

Set everything in bios to manual fsb 333mhz and dram 5-5-5-15 2T everything else default

North bridge voltages tried 1.25v to 1.41v

Even tried Overclocking = i get no post, restart my computer a msg saying resetting bios to default

Sent back my video card 3 times, first time bad fan, 2nd time Didnt work at all, 3rd Pixel Artifacts.

Sent back mobo but it was only repaired, which i think they didn't do anything to it, also discovered when i was taking my cpu off that some of the pins were messed up before i sent it back.

another thing about my board when i got it back the pins to connect my pwr switch etc were bent really bad, good job asus....

Ran memtest 86+ 27 pass no errors, currently running it again

Prime 95 6+ hours on torture test no errors

installed xp then vista no change

tested with 2 sticks of ram to 4

ran chk disk

Things i haven't done

done pretty much everything i can think of.

I personally think its my mobo giving me these troubles, i doubt its my vid card.
Is it Possible that something is bottle necking my card??

Everything loads pretty fast on my system but doesn't play smooth

Please help me figure out what is wrong here... :(

Hello,

Did you install your chipset drivers? It should have come in a CD with the board, or you can download it from ASUS/Intel.
And double check that your video card's drivers are up to date. Currently ForceWare 185 series is available from NVIDIA.

Does the skipping/stuttering occur outside gaming?

Yes, everything is up to date.

Could the x38 chipset be bottlenecking my 280?

not sure else what it could be..

Sorry for the quick responce earliar but yes my aero graphics seem to as well, i got my board back from asus, i was tired of not having a comp to play games on, so i just went with it, then started to happen in every game and was getting worse when it was freezing for .3 of a second to .5 and would happen 4-5 times.

I'm out of idea's so i came here to see if any of you might know what to do?

I doubt rma'ing it again is going to do anything, asus tech support is bad and tired of dealing with them.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813128358
would this serve as a good replacement or even better?

note:
i have tried 3 different drivers including 3rd party drivers, no effect

All games seem to be effected, some worse then others

Left 4 dead i have lost alot of FPS just on vista

I have the P5E, and while I haven't had the problems you've mentioned, I did have problems running 4 sticks of ram (would never POST). You say you've gone from 2 to 4. Was there no difference? Perhaps just try with one stick to make sure. My Corsair XMS2 2GB sticks all passed memtest individually, but like I said, I could never post with all four, even though four sticks of 1GB worked. I now run 2x2GB.

Also, I assume you're running your velociraptors in RAID. I don't run RAID, but could that be an issue? Sounds like you could have a texture loading problem. Someone with more experience may want to lend an opinion on that.

Then again, your overclocking problems suggest it really is the motherboard. Try overclocking mildly with just one or two sticks of ram. You should be able to get up to 3.5-3.7 with no problem (and no voltage increase) on your CPU. Just bump the FSB to 380 or 400 (I'd run your memory in a 1:1 ratio while doing this though, i.e. at 333).

Finally, I find it hard to understand how you've had to RMA the video card so many times. While that probably wouldn't cause your overclocking problems, have you tried running a different video card (something other than 280gtx)?

Passing Prime 95 suggests your CPU and power supply are working, so I don't know what to say about the bent pins.

My sticks pass memtest as well with all 4 sticks in, I'm not on the raid ether to see if that was the problem.

I've managed to OC my cpu to 3.6ghz, no change.

I've tried a 8800GT SC version from Zotac but i don't know how reliable it is, The card might of got torched by a bad psu in my first computer because both did the same exact thing.

As for the texture loading problem sounds like the problem, i could run into open area and i know where some npcs are going to load, sometimes they appear immediately or it will take a couple seconds longer and make my graphics jerk/skip/stutter?! lol

All cards i have received from my first card to this one have done the same, is it safe to rule out my card?

Bump, Anyone have any idea's?

Adding temps of the card

GPU: 58c
PCB 48c
second gpu 50c, this is non sli but it showing 2 gpu temps in gpuz
VDDC Current 16.9A

VDDC Slave 1-5 50C-51C

VDDC 1.1875V

Have you tried 3dMark? I don't believe it's that hard drive dependent. Could also try a basic graphics card testing program like Furmark. If you end up with low scores or crashes, you might have a graphics card problem. Otherwise, it sounds like something is wrong with your hard drive installation, and it would probably be worth reformatting. It sounds like the 8800gt did the same stuttering, right? That's what makes me think it's not a graphics card problem.

I wish it just was a software problem, ive tried xp-32bit, vista-32bit, now windows 7 64bit, Everything loads very quickly, been awhile sense ive ran a benchmark.

Last time i ran one was before i started rma'ing stuff

got a low benchmark for 3dmark 06, tried Furmark with the gt, honestly the gt i think isnt even worth testing with because it gets barely above 50 frames in benchmarks, it probably got toasted by my other comps psu, lol.

Right now i just switched by my card down to its 2nd pci 2.0 slot, see if that solves it.

also I've tried games on both HDD's no change.

Pretty good of example of im seeing not 100% but good enough to see why im pissed off.

Example

Moving my card to the 2nd alot didnt change anything

3dbenchmark 06 basic, my score 14883 resolution 1280 x 1024, all i could use is that a little low?

furmark 4334 for my score

For the 3dmark 06 i did see some stuttering/skipping, furmark i didnt see any.

also nvidia geoforms, i didnt see any stuttering or skipping.

also ran a HDD test for the hell of it, both my HDD passed on quick and extended

Note, i accidentally was running 3dmark06 in vista mode now my benchmarks as windows 7 is 16093.

still some graphic stuttering.

Destord - it really sounds like you've tried everything. Your 3dMark06 score of 14883 is a little low for a 280gtx I think, but 16093 sounds right. My e8400/8800gt gets about 13000 or so. The fact that it was skipping which makes it sound like there's a problem with the graphics subsystem. Since you've tried three video cards, and it's not the hard drives, memory, or operating system, you may be correct that it's the motherboard. If it's too late to RMA, might just try getting a cheaper p45 board to try it out.

My last suggestion was to move the card to the other PCIe slot, but you did that already, so I'm out of ideas. So sorry!

Well.... This makes no sense, Put the new board it everything loads up great, except graphics still stutter, so its the card, I've gotten back 4 bad cards, how is that even possible, Im starting to see pixel artifacts now, didnt notice it before.

Happens when i first load up games i can see red blocks all across my screen for a second.

EVGA, really?.... All the cards ive gotten back from them are OEM, pretty much used, yeah i should of figured.

Note: I like this gigabyte board alot more then my Asus p5e.

What should i do about this card, Buy a new card? or try and rma this card?
Kinda tired of receiving refurbished cards...
