Hello everyone, I have quite a problem....

Here is my exact build:
http://www.buildyourown.org.uk...pic.asp?TOPIC_ID=30053

And here is the problem...

The BIOS is reporting that the CPU is 100 degrees Celsius, and the MB temp is 33. The MB temperature seems right but... the cpu temp is absurd. I have installed the latest BIOS and drivers for everything i could find. It will run games but after about 30 minutes it will shut down. During POST it would report that "CPU OVER VOLTAGE" and "CPU OVER TEMPERATURE" and would occasionally only display "CPU OVER TEMPERATURE" instead of both.

I'm using the stock intel heatsink and it is secured in... what could be the problem?

paulyo,

Sounds to me like you definitely have a CPU temperature problem... I would shut off all the power and remove the HSF and CPU, clean off all the thermal grease and re-seat the CPU, re-paste it, then make sure the HSF is properly seated as well. When you put the thermal grease back on the CPU, use Arctic Silver's procedure for Core 2 chips, just a narrow stripe of the grease down the center of the CPU. If you seat both the CPU and HSF properly after re-pasting the Arctic Silver way, I'll bet your CPU temps come down.

Oh yes, forgot this - make sure the HSF is plugged in to the CPU fan connector on the mobo. Otherwise, the HSF is almost useless...

Good luck, Noel
