I have just bougth a Q9550 cpu and installed it on en Asus P5b-plus vista edition motherboard. On computer startup I get an error: Overclocking Failure.
I can now hit F1 to enter BIOS or hit F2 to use a default BIOS setting and startup the computer. If I hit either F1 or F2 and afterwords restart the computer it freezes on the Asus Startup logo.

I use 800Mhz ram, the newest BIOS i couldt find (1106) and Vista x64.

I have not clocked the motherbord, it is running stardart settings all the way. Is there anyway I can fix this problem?

Thanx in advance.

Well, the newest BIOS is 1103 available here http://support.asus.com/downlo...d.aspx?SLanguage=en-us. It is a beta BIOS and only has beta support for 45nm quad cores. It's a rather old board that does not have guaranteed support because the power circuitry for 45nm processors changed from the 965P chipset to P35/45 chipsets. Asus is only supporting it in beta so you might need to pick up a new P45 board to use the chip.

Thanks for the reply. can you recommend a budget motherboard that would support the Q9550 cpu?

Gigabyte EP45-UD3 Series is your best bet. The UD3L and UD3LR are at the low end and UD3P and UD3R at the high(er) end, being around $130.
