My new Conroe E6600 is running 50 C. at idle, which I understand to be a little hot. I installed the ASUS monitoring software, and it beeps at me because my CPU fan is spinning under 800 RPM. I'm using the stock Fan/Heatsink. I plan to replace it as soon as I find something that fits.

Is anyone else having RPM issues on their brand new fan? Could my motherboard be causing this?

Try plugging the fan directly into the PSU. You will still have the warning (you can disable that through the BIOS), but you should able to tell if it makes a difference.

The first thing you should do is enter the BIOS and disabled QFAN. You'll find this in the Hardware Monitoring section. This will permit your fan to spin at 100%, regardless of CPU temp. Second, if you're idling at 50C according the Probe II, you should re-seat your heatsink/fan, since there may be insufficient contact with the CPU's heatspreader. You're also going to have heat issues if your case has poor air-flow. Your case should have at one 80mm fan in the frint of the case pulling in fresh air, and another at the back of the case pushing out the hot air.

I would definitely advise getting yourself a good aftermarket cooler to replace the stock cooler. Don't forget to purchase a tube of good thermal paste, like Arctic Silver 5.
