ASUS P5A problem - mouse dies, maybe heat-related

Howdy,

I'm having trouble with my ASUS P5A, K6-2/400. For about a month now, the mouse has been freezing. Typically, the cursor jumps slightly and then freezes. Sometimes, it will act as if one (or several) mouse-click events have also happened at the same instant -- a menu will pop up, or some text on the window underneath will get highlighted, or I will hear a small "pop" sound (the little warning that Win95 gives when you try to select an unavailable action).

Any ideas what to do? Rebooting fixes it temporarily, but having to reboot every two minutes (sometimes) is unworkable. I think this relates to heat buildup; do I just need a new CPU fan, or do I need to install a fan over some other chip?

Thanks in advance!

I have a P5A with a K6-III 400 on it... what OS are you using? What are your cpu temps? What brand mouse are you using? Might need to go look for a newer driver.
