Asus P5A/B mobo memory support.

Looking at the chipset specifications, it WON'T support a single 256MB DIMM.

The chipset only supports chip densities up to 64-bits.

This means that the largest DIMM it can handle is a double sided, 16-chip 128MB DIMM.

It sounds to me like it would work. Crucial has the 256 MB DIMMs listed as being compatible and it says that it has 32MBx64bit 256 MB DIMMs available so that should fit the requirement that AndyHui mentioned. Also, the max RAM the board can handle is 768 MB and with only 3 slots that can only be achieved by 256MBx3. I think it should work. Look here for Crucial's information.

Are you sure? I have a Gigabyte GA-5AX rev5.2 that uses the Ali Aladdin V chipset and I have 512 megs on it (two 128 meg sticks and one 256 meg stick) and it seems fine. Windows and the bios reports it has 512 megs.

I'm not worried about 128MB DIMMs....I'm concerned about 256MB DIMMs.

The datasheet only says support for 64megabit densities, but it doesn't actually say anything about larger densities, or density limits.

It's possible that your Gigabyte board may have a later revision of the chipset, as I know they changed the specs for the BX chipset to support 128megabit densities later on as well.

At this point, I would have to say "try it".

Yeah, I have the latest revision "H" of the Aladdin V chipset on my Gigabyte.
