The P5A w\sound User's Manual shows three (3) jumpers used to disable the on-board sound. The actual board only has one (1)jumper. The on-board sound is totally unsatisfactory and I have installed a Creative Labs model CT4750 sound card on one of my P5A systems and cannot get it to work. Does anyone know a work-a-round?

You will need to pick up another couple jumpers, you need all three jumpers to be towards the right to disable the onboard.

take a look at your manual, it's all in there. I know, I have one. if you need a copy, I'm sure you can download it off the internet.

basically you have to change the jumper that is between the 2nd and 3rd PCI slot. all 3 jumpers have to be moved down (in relation to the diagram I'm lookin at, where the USB and mouse ports are UP, and the RAM and IDE slots are DOWN.

CRV: The problem is that only one set of the 3 pin x 3 audio jumpers exists on my boards. Where the other sets should be are only "stubs" indicating where they should be. A real problem! Thanks.

Okay I see now, I had the P5A also and it had the 9 pins/3 jumpers.

I might guess that you may have an early revision of this board, I remember when I bought mine new there was rumours that you couldn't disable the onboard sound and that right around the time I bought mine Asus was including an option to disable it.
In fact in the manual there was a small insert of paper that fell out detailing how to disable the sound.

My version of the P5A has the listing in the manual for the onboard audio, but I don't have it on the board. Not that I'm crying or anything.

CRV: Thanks for the reply. I bought these boards in March, 2000 and the bios version is 1007A. I understand that what you are saying could be the case, however, I would hope that these boards would not be "earlier versions". The only insert in the manual referred to Voltage Regulator Selection. Anyway, I posted my problem on the ASUS board - I may get a reply. By the way, have you had problems with the +3.3 V running high (3.616) as reported by the ASUS Probe utility? Thanks.

Strange isn't it...the only reason I can see is that they are audio versions that can't be disabled, maybe OEM's?, or first PCB revisions.

There is a jumper called OFTEST that boosts the I/O voltage by 10% if it's left on. This was mainly for overclocking and should be removed. Default voltage is 3.5V
