Does anyone have this particular board running stable? I was going to upgrade my system to this board and RIMM4200, but so far i've had nothing but problems with this setup. I tried flashing the BIOS, disabling as many of the onboard peripherals as i can, but to no avail. I can't even load Windows XP or 2000 without crashing during the install. When I was successfully able to load XP, all my games would crash randomly. I've always trusted Asus motherboards, but I have to say, this one is a disappointment.

Could the problem perhaps be not enough juice? I'm using a 300W Sparkle PS which works fine with the Soyo P4X400 Dragon, and I've never configured a Rambus system before. Is 300W not enough? If anyone has any info they can share, I'd greatly appreciate it.

It could be anything... from your PS to your RIMM... seems quite picky on RDRAM modules... if you go to the asusboards forum... someone mentioned that ASUS is releasing a new revision of this board... dunno if that is much more stable.

Heh you should have researched before you bought that board. That board has loads of voltage regulation issues which leads many to crash at even default! Blame Asus for not taking the time to properly engineer the board. There are rumors that Asus will be releasing a Revision 2 of the board, but rumors are just that... rumors.

Well that board rocks when its running fine... but the people that are having problems with it outnumber those that have it running smoothly. Only thing I could tell you is try a different RIMM... don't know if you could do that since not many of us have RDRAM lying around... just go do a search on here and you'll end up looking a thread at hardforums that's 100 pages long... just for this board. maybe you could get more help there. good luck to you. :)

Crap, this is seriously bumming me out!!

I just ordered a P4T533 with Samsung RIMM4200 and a P4 2.53Ghz CPU.

I found the 100+ page thread on HardOCP about this motherboard AFTER I ordered all this stuff. Dangit.

Should I even open the package on this thing and try to mess with it, or should it just go immediately back to Newegg?

Maybe I'll just wait for the P4PE instead. Yeah, another ASUS board and unproven, but it looks pretty sweet.

After hours of trying to get my board to work properly, I decided that its just too much of a hassle and returned the board. Not one to give up so easily, I decided to exchange it for another one, hoping that I would get a stable board. Just in case the set up was power starved, I decided to upgrade my power supply from 300 watts to 450 watts. Call it luck of the draw, I actually got a stable board the second time around. I had no problems installing Windows or running any games. Its a hell of a combination when it works.

Word of warning though, this is still a poorly engineered board, so you take your chances when you buy it. I've been following a 100+ page thread on this board on asusboards.com, and so far there are far more bad boards than good. Asus should just cut their losses and reacall this board already.

Why are you only considering Asus? There are too many Asus nut jockers in this world.

Ive had a stable one since I got it as long as you keep it under 150FSB. For running D20L I keep it at default though, but 2.53GHZ and RIMM 4200 at 4X Turbo isnt bad.. Running D2oL is a heavy load (100 percent load) and Im running it 24/7 without fail. Im using two sticks of ram BTW.
