Hi,

I just got my new components in the door, been looking forward to build my new computer
for the last 2 weeks!

After assembling everything (wich all was new)

Asus P4T533-C
Intel P4 Northwood 2.0Ghz
2x256MB samsung PC800 RD-RAM
Enermax 350W psu
Chieftech tower
WD 80GB (special edition 8mb cache)
Creative GF4600

I flip the switch and i heal the psu starting up, the HDD spinning up and the cdroms blinking..
BUT nothing happens.. after 10 secs my screen goes into "powersavings" mode again and nothing more happens..?

Nothing will make it post, iwe tried disconnecting everything, even tried with a PCI graphics card,
with no prosessor, disconnected all the drives nothing helps.

Is this 100% motherboard DOA?
or _can_ it be something else?

Please help here Thanks

I would take the board out of the case. Place it on the static bag it came in. Check the memory and video card, and reinstall them if they are not seated properly. Memory should go in with a "snap". With just the cpu/heatsink, 1 stick of memory, and video card, try to get a post. Your board may be touching something in the case that is shorting it out temporarilly.

I have the same problem!

I have:

P4T533-C
512 MB Kingston 16bit PC1066
P4 2.53Ghz
Geforce 4 ti4600

Only thing i know is not supported is my 60GB Matrox HD ATA133... board supports up to ATA100, but don't think that would prevent it from posting.

If anyone has any idea on why this is happening i'd appreciate it. If i find a solution i will post it asap.

are you sure the memory modules are in the right locations? i had trouble with that myself, the two modules don't go together, but across from each other. try moving the memory around for a while and see if that works. remember 16bit RAMBUS only works with two identical modules.

Even if the BIOS only supports ATA/100 and the HD is ATA/133, it will work fine. ATA/133 is backwards compatible. If you really are unsure about the HD, then just unplug it - you don't need a HD in there to post.

Anema - make sure the CPU is plugged in correctly and the cooler is installed properly (with Arctic Silver 2/3 prefferably). Also make sure you got the RAM installed in the correct slots.

You can post and see what you're doing with just a CPU, RAM, and video card in there. If you don't have one of the 3 then you will not be able to post. HD's etc won't really make a difference until after posting.

One of the things ASUS boards like to do when they are overclocked, or insufficiently cooled is not post, and when you turn them on everything spins up but the monitor stays in standby mode. This happens often when you are trying to overclock and push the CPU too high, or when you have not properly installed the HSF onto the CPU.

Also, you may want to try re-installing the CPU itself, or clearing the CMOS by shorting the jumper with a paper clip, or what have you.

Hopefully something helps.

Thanks for the replies...

I am using the Heatsink and Fan that came with the chip (p4 2.53). I also didn't see any instructions for nor any coolant paste (like i normally put on an AMD)... this chip has like a silver plate on it so the core isn't exposed. Maybe i'm doing something wrong there... any more thoughts?

Did you insert the CTRIMMs? You have to fill every RIMM slot on the board or it won't post (i.e. one CTRIMM and one RIMM per channel).
