ASUS P4T with 1.3GHz P4? Will it work?

I ordered a 1.3GHz P4 for a great deal, but then realized that the motherboard I was planning to get, ASUS P4T (ATX) is rated at 1.4-1.5 GHz P4s. Considering that the chipset and slot type is the same, shouldn't I be able to use the 1.3GHz on this board? If I have to overclock I will.

FYI The only P4 board ASUS makes is the P4T.

If I can't, then what recommendations do you guys have. I really appreciate the help.

Yeah it should work. I believe Asus probably just hasn't updated thier specs for the board. I believe that Intel released the 1.4GHz, then the 1.3Ghz and 1.5GHz together. You will be fine.

Ah.. that would make sense. I was actually hoping (well praying) that this would be the case. I was totally caught off guard when I read the ratings of the P4T.

I just contacted ASUS about it.. they said it won't work because the ID of the 1.3GHz P4 has a ID that tells the BIOS on the P4T what it is.. and what has been known to happen is that the screen would hang because of it. :(

WTF? You serious? Oh man, that's so gay! First off, how the hell did you get a response from Asus so fast anyways? For most people, it takes days upon weeks for a response, if any at all! Consider yourself lucky, I guess. ;) Asus should be able to fix that with a BIOS update....may need a loaner for 5 minutes or something. I can't think of a motherboard that doesn't support a processor of lower speeds, but yet it supports higher rated ones(Except P4T)??? Wierd man. It's worth a shot, though. It can't hurt to try it out. What case are you using?

Yah it was wierd that it's not backward compatable.. The tech said he got a lot of support questions on the board giving out a blank screen when using the 1.3GHz. I don't want to risk the board not working and having to pay restocking fee.. so I'm going to return the P4 and just get a AMD TBird since Intel is going through a redesign.. wish I was paying attention to this before I bought.

About getting a fast response from ASUS.. well I was on hold for 35+ minutes at long distance.. Took forever, but the guy was nice enough to explain it to me.
