Finally decided on P4/RDRAM for my new system. For the P4, it will be a 1.8 GHz Northwood which I may have to wait. For mobo, I have narrowed down to either Asus P4T or Abit TH7-II. What would you buy, P4T or TH7-II?

Well if your going northwood you'll need the P4T-E board. From what I've heard they are both very good motherboards although the abit seems to overclock much better. So if your planning to overclock that guy you should go with the Abit.

Sorry, my mistake, I meant P4T-E since Northwood has socket-478. Based on performance and reliability (with MODERATE overclocking, my current system is P3-800@904), will you buy the Asus P4T-E or Abit TH7-II?

The Abit TH7-II is socket 478.

mis3, get the P4T-E. I have one and its been 100% stable and problem free since I got it. As far as overclocking goes mine is running a 1.5GHz P4 at 1.9GHz(15x127mhz, RDRAM multiplier at 4x)without a problem for months now. Its a nice board just get good ram if you plan on overclocking.

Overclocking on the P4T-E doesn't really go too far at all compared to the TH7-II. Both boards are perfectly stable and feature rich, but the TH7-II overclocks farther.

If you plan on overclocking then the best boards will be the Intel 845-D or SIS645 series. To date my Northwood 2.0a has not overclocked very well on the Asus P4T-E but has excellent results on my Soyo 645 board. However, if you plan on RDRAM then the best board I have used is the Gigabyte GA-8ITXR as it overclocks very well, very good lan and sound on board, and Promise Raid.
