hi guys,
on a P4-1700 computer i helped build for a friend, the computer stopped properly booting up the other day. when he turns the machine on, all the fans and lights in the PC turn on, however, the computer shuts itself off after 40 seconds of being on.
seeing this, i thought it might be a PSU problem, yet trying it out with 3 different PSU's all gave me the same result. so, i took the mobo out of the case, and just booted it up with the bare essentials: mobo, cpu, ram, pci video-card. and each time, it turns on, yet no signal to the video card for a display. the mobo doesnt even beep at all... not the normal beep, or the error beeps, which kind of worries me.
i also thought that clearing the bios might help, yet if you check out the manual for the Asus P4T mobo, there is no jumper to clear it. the only way to do it is to solder a pin, which i cannot do nor have the tools to do so. i just took the cmos battery out for 8 hours, and tried again the next morning, however, i would get the same results.
has the mobo gone bad on me? i really cannot tell... maybe there's a problem with the cpu, or the ram, yet i cannot test it out as i have no other RAMBUS testbeds, nor any Socket 423 Pentium 4's. the mobo is also over a year old, so i highly doubt that i can send it back to Asus for a repair/RMA.
any help would be greatly appreciate... thanks in advance!
