Make sure the "cmos" jumper is in the normal position. Also, be sure your screw hole on top of the video card (that connects to the back of the case) lines up well when you tighten it. Some agp cards will pop out when you tighten down the screw. You may have to bend the tab on the video card to line up the screw hole.

thx for the suggestions o1die.

i have now tried 2 different ati cards in the machine to no avail.

i made sure the screw hole on the case lines up with the one on the card and that there was no "slippage"

i also reset the cmos between tries with the different cards.

this one's got me stumped. :(

got any more suggestions o1die/anyone ?

Don't quote me on this, but I *think* I remember seeing on the Asus site that the older BIOS that came with these boards sometimes had problems with ATI cards. I'm running BIOS ver 1008, but I believe they're up to a 1009 beta. I have this board myself, and after ironing out some Memory problems with it, I'm pretty satisfied.

Powersupply ok? Is it P4 ready? Did you put in all your standoffs? Is the mobo touching any metal? Set all jumpers to default, reset cmos. Here is some odd little bug that occured with a radeon i put in my emachine the other day. I can't turn the monitor on before powering up the system. So i have to powerup the system, then turn the monitor on a couple seconds later. Should work like a charm. I know it sounds weird but it might work.

Hey I had the same problem, with the same board!

Wonder if its a coincidence or a bad batch or something. My conclusion was that I had a bad mobo. Already RMA'd it. My "loaner" board is working fine.....and its half the price of the ASUS.

anyways...good luck with urs and let us know if it does end up being the mobo.

prong-
yea, i read the same thing. apparently this board has issues with early ati cards that were 2x agp and used software to emulate 4x agp. least thats what i got from it.

Sudheer Anne-
power supply is a brand new antec 350 watt p4 ready supple. i used the main atx plug and the small square power plug when i installed this system. this particular board has another connection for a molex type connector for those supplies that are not p4 ready. i used all 6 standoffs, and i have triple checked that the board is not touching the case or any metal, other than the standoffs. the boards default jumper settings have not been changed other than the jumper to clear cmos. i ve done that 3 or 4 times now as well as removing the cmos battery while i reset the cmos. i just tried turning the monitor on after the system is powered up, and had no luck. good tip though.

Tates-
thx for the link to the new bios. unfortunately i cant even see the stock bios, much less flash it to the new.

TheKhan-
yea, i read your post as well. sounds like the exact same problem you were having. hope a new board clears all of this up.

All that responded-
