Hi, I'm sorry if this belongs in a different forum, but I ran into some problems tonight helping a friend with his P4S533. I'm not sure what the problem is exactly and I would greatly appreciate some help from the knowledgeable users here.

SYSTEM SPECS:

ASUS P4S533 MOTHERBOARD
P4 2.53GHZ
Duel Raid Western Digital HD's (75 Gig Ea.)

Here is what happened:

He was having problems with his system and stop errors at random times, which eventually spiralled into a stop error at boot up. Eventually the computer would no longer recognize any hard drives. At this point I was called over.

The first thing I did was check his BIOS settings. It was not detecting a HD. I tried to use XP recovery mode to format, partition, hell, do anything, but it would tell me that the C: drive was "removeable media". Chkdsk would come back telling me the drive had irreparable damage. Same thing for his other HD, "E:". Then I noticed that during bootup, I was getting a message

"BIOS Update Incorrect"

At this point I went to the ASUS website and downloaded the AFLASH utility. I also got BIOS Version 1006. I made an MS-DOS bootdisk also and returned to his computer. I booted into MS-DOS. I ran AFLASH. I flashed BIOS version 1006. It finished successfully.

This is where the current problem began.

After shutting off the computer and turning off the power supply for a good 30 seconds, I restarted the computer. Nothing. It took a good 5-10 minutes before I saw the GeForce come alive, then the new BIOS screen. And there it sits.

The computer will not recognize the keyboard, I cannot get into the BIOS setup (pressing DEL) or the AFLASH utility (pressing ALT-F2). I cannot boot to a floppy or anything as it freezes before the BIOS does anything. At this point I am lost and looking for guidance, thank you for your time!

Appreciatively,
-Craig

Did you clear CMOS with the PSU unplugged after you flashed? Any beeps or error codes? Did you recheck all cables and connections? After all that, I'd try a different keyboard and stick of RAM. Goodluck.

Straight from the Asus website

P4S533 1008 Bios
Fix CPU Information does not showed under WinXP
Fix Floppy can not boot when P4 2.5G CPU installed
Fix win98se can not be installed if IDE Ultra DMA Mode
Add MS/SD WINBOND W83L518D-SB support

It looks like you need to update to at least the 1008 bios.

Thanks for the tips! I won't have a chance to play with his machine tonight in person, but I told him to try clearing the CMOS again.

I would update to BIOS 1008 (at least) except that I can't do ANYTHING at this point... If it comes down to me calling ASUS I will post their answer here for future reference.

Thanks again, have a good one.
