Hi! Here is a horror story for ya all!!

I was very exited when I got those (Asus + NW), I even got to test my processor out of two canditates. (Both SL63X's) Mine (the better) can do some 2500Mhz++ (Don't remember exact speed, I tested the highest speed that booted...) I ran all tests with stock intel cooler.
First I tested reliability @2.4Ghz (133Mhz systembus, or 533 if you willl...) by running pifast for 2 hours, and temperature was (According to asus pcprobe) some 54 - 59 celsius. Not too bad I thought, NW seemed to run happily @2.4Ghz.

However I started to have some problems next morning when I booted up. Windows said (XP prof.) that my harddrive was corrupted and it tried to fix it. After 2 reboots it finally started, but now I was getting some I/O errors. One reboot more and I couldn't get anything but BSOD saying that my hd is dead. (No workaround for that, tried lowering udma modes etc. and safemodes.) The tricky part is that this very same hd works flawlessy in my other computers. Remember also that when running oc'd with asus p4s533 @ 533fsb, pci is @33mhz, exactly where it should be, so no error there. Also overheating is very unlikely, because it was colder than last night and when I got to windows pcprobe showed only some 40 celsius for cpu and 33 for motherboard, nice temps if you ask me.

OK. Third day and I was armed with Win2K. It had never let me down so I was confident that this would save my ass. I ripped of everything from my computer, it had only motherboard, processor, and my trusted elsa cladiac 920 (Long live elsa, weep.) Hd is a maxtor 740dx, cdrom liteon 12x10x32 and panasonic floppydisk drive. Oh, and I use kingmax memory 2x256mt ddr333, asus qualified memory modules. I set lamest timings to every possible thing in bios and disable onboard sound, parallel and com ports. Installation begun. Everythin worked nicely, I even installed some programs like office and photoshop 5.5. But everything good must come to an end (or how you say that in there USA?) and what do you know? Yes, you're evel, I see you smiling! I/O errors! Many, little notification windows popped up until BSOD came.

Ok here is the deal. I think that there is something wrong in sis ide and/or agp drivers, or atleast I hope so.

Say what you think, or if you have similar stories please share them with us. All I know is that I'm unhappy young man who has nice pile of too expensive scrap metal in the corner of his room. ANY advice is welcome.

Ok stick with me on this one ....... Its just an idea .......

What Memory setting are you running ?

Ive read the SDRAM RAS Active Time if set to lower than 6 can cause data corruption issues ( I even tested this out as 5 gives wicked banchmark results - but is iffy about data )

Sounds like you were tweaking so just for the sake of it check the settings in your BIOS.

Hope that helps.......

In my opinion sis chipsets are not worth the trouble they cause , very unreliable pcs of junk.

yea "intel rocks", intel chipsets "never crash". Cmon , this guy is obviously doing something wrong because i have never seen anyone else with the type of problems he has. It seems like your pushing your memory too hard, and 54-60C on the Northwood is a little high.

54-60c is also high just in the sense it is on an asus mobo which is notorious for some of the lowest reporting temps...My asus sis chipset reported near 8c lower then my epox mobo I have now with the my older HSF...

Also sis chipset are pcs of junk!!! I think that blanket statement sounds very foolish and childish...

I had no problems with my sis645 chipset and my sis735 chipset. I think intel chipset are slightly better performers, but sis by no means is instable or junk.

My sis645 mobo was a good ocer...the sis645dx like above is known for even better ocing fsb levels and better memory performance...

Try installing at 1800mhz, with the ram timings by SPD, then install XP, then the windows updates, then the SIS drivers.
Then make sure its stable for a day or two and then start trying to increase the FSB to 133.
Ive no problems runnign that baord at 150fsb / PCI@37.5 with 1.6a

I've been having problems with shutting the computer down since I installed the latest set of SiS AGP Drivers (1.9) - it crashes any time I shut down/reset and has to be turned off manually.

Everything works fine now.... Installed xp once more, but didn't install any sis drivers. Everything works very well. Now I hesitate to install those drivers. What should I do?
