Asus P4S333 = Dead USB for me...

DING! DING! DING! DING! We don't have a winner.. I put in a second P4S333 board and still have the same trouble with my USB ports falling out on me while surfing or playing a game. I need help here, do you people think it is just an Asus problem or chipset??? I don't know why it would just be an Asus problem.. Or does this mean it would be more of a SiS problem with the 645 chipset??? I've been thinking about going to a different brand, maybe the Soyo or the Epox with Raid.. They are both on the same chipset though.. I have DDR333 and would like to keep running it, and the Intel solution seems to be slow compared to the SiS chip... Please help!!!

My P4S333 runs fine with all 4 supplied USB ports filled.

throw up some system specs including OS

are u running XP? - if so, turn off the USB power savings feature (it caused my devices to cut out when inactive for extremely short periods)

u can do it by going into device manager, USB root hub, power management, and uncheck the top box.

Ok, system specs. Asus P4S333 2 x 256meg Kingmax.. 1.6a All speeds and voltage running default. I have run the system with a fresh install of Win2k and still have the same problems. That's with NO IO cards except for my Geforce2 GTS card. It is currently running with a Promise TX2 Raid controller, SB Live, SMC EZ Card Network card and that's pretty much it. My printer I'm having trouble with is a HP P1000 Photosmart. It works great untill the ports die.. It will even kill my mouse if it is plugged into the USB port. I know I have got to be missing something here.. I have been all over this board and back. I can regain my USB ports by either rebooting or killing the drivers in device manager and letting it detect the USB Controller again.. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a P4s333 and an HP P1000, I had trouble with it too, turns out I had a cheapo usb cable, when I got a better cable all was fine.

I bought a cheap usb cable and plugged the printer in and everytime windows loaded I would get an error saying the printer was not responding, this was with the cable going from the printer to my usb hub, so I decided to try going straight from the printer to a usb port on the motherboard, same problem, finally I took the cable that connects the hub to the usb port on the motherboard and used that to connect the printer to a usb port on the motherboard and it has been working fine for a few weeks now.

The cheapo cable works fine for connecting the hub to the computer, and the cable that was originally connecting the hub to the computer works fine for connecting the printer to the computer

I'll swap out cables and give it a shot.. The only difference is, when I boot, it can see my printer, and when the printer goes away, so does my mouse. But I'll give it a shot.. I'm thinking maybe it is a voltage issue.. 12v = 11.8 5, = 4.919 3.3v = 3.296 It's a new Antec PP303XP... The 300 watter.. I'm ready to go nuts.. Asus says, stand on one foot and bark like a dog to make it work correctly.

Well, problem is solved.. After spending much money on another P4S33 board (cause Asus wouldn't help me) I have FINALLY resolved my problems by disabling my onboard USB ports and installing a USB 2.0 card. So far so good.. For some reason, Win2k just didn't want to jive with that SiS 7001 Chip.. Anyhow, thanks for the input everybody.. And just to let you know, I got two identical boards, but one will let me OC a heck of a lot more.. Crazy! THANKS!


P.S. I can't wait for Intel to come out with a DDR333 chip... Then someone can have my SiS645 board!
