Asus P4S333 and 3 sticks of Ram

Just curious if anyone is running the Asus P4S333 with all 3 DDR slots filled. I have 3 sticks of Crucial 256 meg DDR2100 that I would like to use and am not sure if this is the right board for me. I would also like to overclock if possible with all 3 ram slots filled, anyone try that yet? Thanks in advance.

That would be a very bad idea, given the troubles DDR SDRAM have with higher frequencies. My advice to you is too simply use one large DIMM. Besides, that board is designed for PC2700.

I am trying to reuse as much from my current setup as possible without having too much left over. I plan on getting an Antec 1030 Server Tower and 420 Watt PSU, 1.6a NW CPU and either the Asus P4S333 or the P4B266.

Current Config:
AMD Thunderbird 1.4 AYHJA @ 1.47 (11 x 133)
Thermalright SK-6 with YS Tech 7000 rpm and Arctic Alumina
Shuttle AK31 ver 3.1 Bios S2EF
Windows XP Professional
Visiontek Geforce 3 Ti 500 using the Det 27.42 drivers
768 megs of PC2100 Crucial DDR Ram
Maxtor 27.3 Gig 7200 rpm HD
Western Digital 60 Gig 5400 HD
SB Live 5.1
Adaptec 2930 Scsi Card
Hitachi 12x DVD Rom GD-7500
Liteon 12x10x32 CDRW LTR-12101B
Plextor 8 X 20 Scsi CDR Burner
Intel Pro/100+ Management Adapter NIC
DSL Internet Connection
Inwin S500 Case
Powerman FSP300-60BT PSU

You probably won't have a problem, but it's a possibility. I don't trust DDR SDRAM with overclocking on the P4 since RDRAM is available, but it does work.

Can you explain a little bit about pc2100 "mode"? What do you think my chances of at least hitting 133fsb with a 1.6a are with all 3 sticks of ram in? Thanks.

It'll work fine, but you'll get memory errors during normal usage, unless that's high performance corsair or mushkin.

Daovonnaex-
im really confused as to your last post there. (?)

rgowen-
pc 2100 mode is kinda vague isnt it?
if youre running a 133fsb and 133ddr bus that would be 1:1 or "pc2100 mode" for that overclock.
ive already run 3x 256mb @ 133fsb 1:1 w/o any problems at all.

your only other option at 133fsb is 4:5 which would be pc2700 mode / 166ddr bus.

At higher frequencies SDRAM (and DDR) have signal integrity issues, especially with multiple DIMMs.

rgowen, you might want to consider the Cheiftech DX-01WD-420W case that Newegg is currently selling for $83 plus $18 shipping. As others told me, it does appear to be exactly like the Antec 1000 case with an additional removable device cage. At least I hope it is, as I ordered one just a couple of days ago.🙂

Dao, I've been picking up on your replies on several threads. I'm preparing to pull the trigger on a P4 1.6A (or 1.8A) but am undecided on DDRAM versus RDRAM. Your "inebriated condor" rig is outrageous! However, "gundam" seems more on a par with what others are reporting with DDRAM. Is the difference largely due to water cooling, or are there other important differences between the two? How fast do you think "condor" would go with just air-cooling? And I gotta ask waht you use all these rigs for?

THANKS!

The Cheiftec case is the one I was considering . The Black one with the Face cover and 420 Watt PSU. Be interested to hear about it once you receive it PowerEngineer. Want to make sure it has the P4 plug as well. Just curious if you ordered any of the case fans from Newegg, trying to see which are the best bang for the buck.
