OS: Windows XP pro

I assembled everything with a Crucial PC 2100 DIMM from this PC (The memory shipped from Newegg was bad).
Went through the BIOS settings per manual.
No other cards; just AGP video (All-in-1 Radeon)

Windows loaded as expected, when it gets to the final reboot, it goes black &/or freezes.
It will load windows in safe mode- shows some uninstalled components in control panel (onboard sound/NIC?)

I reset the BIOS to default and reinstalled- same problem.
Is this a software problem- should I upgrade the BIOS?

The only other thing I can think of are new Power supply is flaky - Turbolink 420W, or *gulp* bad motherboard.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

THanks.

I didn't adjust the memory settings.

On the second attempt I went to default bios settings.

I'm pretty sure I had it on the SPD SDRAM configuration, which is supposed to configure the timings from the memory EEPROM?

Is there a specific setting I need to change here and for the DRAM refresh rate (also is probably set at SPD right now)?

Thanks for the input.

Yeah, I changed it to AGP the first time through the bios, the second time I defaulted the bios, so maybe it went back to PCI.

Anyone else?

Flash the Bios?

Isn't that an 845PE issue with Radeon cards?
could have sworn I read that somewhere....

Gasman, after two days of working with this board, this is what has helped me.

First problem: no video signal
fix:switch the power switch connector on the mb

Second Problem: Unable to boot into os
Fix:Reinstall or reapair the winxp intsall. This would be the second option in the menu after selecting install. Then press "R".
Reason: If you were upgrading like me, you probably had an athlon mobo before with a via chipset and drivers. The os looks for the old amd board and when its not found it reboots or black screens. Repairing or reinstalling the os looks at what is connected currently and allows you to boot into windows. If you were building a brand new system I do not know the fix.

Third problem:USB devices stop working.
Fix: Do not install the usb 2.0 drivers from the cd if you have already installed xp sp1. I have read on asusboards.com that the cd drivers were made before the sp1 drivers. Even though it sounds like its really importent to install them when you pop in the support cd you dont need to do it unless you are already using usb2 devices and do not have winxp sp1. If you have already installed them and are having problems go into device manager and uninstall all the usb controllers. On the next boot let windows install all of the necessary drivers.

This mobo was a huge pain in the ass to install. Seems like some people got it to work the first time and others ran into multiple problems. It seems to be running well so far and Ill keep you updated it anything else comes up.

I hope this help you and any others having problems with the asus p4pe. :)
