Asus P4PE Problem

I got the mobo on Monday the 28th and when I put everything together it worked fine. I have a Chieftec/Antec case and last night I decided to plug the front USB into the mobo USB 2.0 header. When I booted after doing that, it gave me an error message on POST, but the PC booted ok and everything seemed to be working ok.

My problem is this, when I got up and turned it on this morning, XP looked like it had little squares all over the desktop, like artifacting, thinking that I may have bumped the vid card or something, I rechecked and reseated all of the PCI/AGP cards and checked power connections to everything. It all looked OK, so I went into BIOS to check the hardware monitor settings and noticed some major artifacting in BIOS. Some of the colors were wrong and there appeared to be two broken "stripes" running vertically down the screen. I tried flashing the BIOS, removing all power from other devices execpt CPU fan and EZ-Plug, and pulling out the sound card, etc. and nothing seemed to help. I'm about to try the 1002 BIOS that was posted here earlier, hopefully that will help.

I am using a 400w Antec PS and utilizing the EZ-Plug feature of the ASUS board. The PS is fairly old, about 2 years, but it was working fine up until now. I'm just looking for suggestions on whether or not to RMA the mobo. If anyone has had the same problems, I would be very grateful for some help. Thanks.

Asus P4PE w/ 2.5ghz P4, 256mb PC2100, Alpha PAL 8492, Antec 400w PS

What vid card? if you have a friend or someone you could borrow one from it would be good to try in order to eliminate the Vid card as the culprit. Are you overclocking? Also, did you try removing the USB connector that you hooked up right before the trouble started? it's not likely it has anything to do with it and that it's just a coincidence but it couldn't hurt ;) not to mention this is a new board and the bugs haven't been shaken' out yet so a USB issue isn't unheard of. Also take a look over at Asusboards.com and see what you can find. Good luck and post back :)

I have no such problems and I run a MS wheel from the USB. I also tried a USB mouse - no problems. Review your BIOS settings - USB, IRQ sharing etc. and update your WinXP if not already done.
have not used the USB 2.0 ports yet only the 1.1 ones.
