Asus P4PE memory problem

I have a home built PC with the Asus P4PE MB. I have been running with two sticks of 512MB DDR Pc2700 RAM (1GB) with out any problems. I purchased 2 sticks of 1GB DDR PC2700 RAM (2GB) and when I install these, the PC will no longer POST. From what I have read, the P4PE board can handle up to 2 GB of RAM. Why will this not work? I am running XP pro with all service packs and updates.

Have you tried each one seperatly in Dimm 1 to make sure each one is functioning , you did put the ram stix in Dimm 1 & Dimm 2 when you tried them together right ? This brd will not work with double sided X16 stix, which ones did you buy ? Maybe you didn't set up your bios correctly for your new ram. Food for thought..good luck.

Yep, I have tried each seperately and also had them installed in Dimm 1 & Dimm 2. It is double sided RAM, but the two sticks I have in there right now are also double sided.

What change needs to be done in the bios? I thought the bios would pick this automatically...

OK, I figured out the problem here. Apparantly the cheapskate in me got me into trouble. I bought high density RAM because it was cheaper. High density RAM has about a 10% compatibility rate compared to low density RAM that has a 100% compatibiity rate. I will mark this down as a lesson learned. Hopefully anyone reading this post will also learn from my mistake.
Thank You nad have a great day!
