ASUS P4PE + 2 WD 100GB HD's... can i do RAID 0??

I'm thinking of getting the P4PE, but i already have 2 Western Digital Special Edition 8MB 100GB hard drives that I want to use... I'm kinda confused about using RAID w/ the P4PE, can I do it with these drives? Or do i have to get adapter cables. And if i can't use RAID with it, i still need to get adapter cables don't i? what are they? And also, are there PCI RAID controllers i could get so i can use these drives if i can't?

Thanks everyone

if your asus pe has raid onboard then yes you can do it easily with those drives. otherwise a pci raid controller card will work just fine, thoise drives being identicle are perfect for raid.

as far as cables go - i might be wrong but i think they use the same ide cables as you use for non raid - someone please correct me if i am wrong on this.

if i was going to make a prefect raid system i would use those drives you have or maybe 120 gigs :) you get 16 megs cache through raid with those (atleast sharkey extreme says so).

OK, i'm still kinda confused... i am getting this one from newegg for $152, and it doesn't mention anything about raid, but i heard it did have it. Anyway, if i get this mobo, and have those 2 WD hard drives, is there anything else i need to buy in order to use striped raid? (i've never used RAID before)

I think this is different than most mobos for using hard drives because it is SATA and i might need adapters...

Thanks!

ok almost every board type has a few options to it but it is hard to tell by the name of the board. the asus pe has a few different flavors so it is important to make sure your buying the one you want and not missing out on the function you want.

if you know where your going to buy it from ask them for the version with raid. otherwise find out exactly what the board is called. my MSI 648 Max - L has the L on it to tell me that it has lan onboard but other manufacturers use different letterings or terms.

honestly i was looking at a few of the stores i buy from and from thier websites i couldnt tell which had the raid and which didnt. - well one i could becuase it showed after the board what it all included.

ok saw your problem i got an asus p4pe now which replaced my abit it7max2 v2 .. what a big mistake i made.... i needed to use a separate raid controller to be able to use my 2 WD 100 GB in RAID-O mode....it will be more expensive for me to buy an adaptor for the harddrive to be able to use the serialATA cables...i guess the best thing for you to do is get the abit it7 max2 v2 or asus p4b533-E mobo ....

by the way the abit it7 max2 v2 is a better overclocker than the p4pe...

Yes, the P4PE has RAID, but only if at least one of your drives has a Serial-ATA interface. Do a search of archived posts and you should find quite a few posts on this subject.
