ASUS P4P800 RAM query

Hi folks

I have an ASUS P4P800 motherboard. My two sticks of memory currently reside in slots 1 and 3. I believe this is nec. to take advantage of the dual channel option.

Question... could I move the memory over to slots 2 & 4 without a problem? The reason that I might want to do this is because the there is very little clearance on this mobo between the leading edge of the memory sticks and the AGP socket. The new graphics card I'm thinking of ordering (a HIS X800XL ICE2 turbo AGP version) has a metal heat sink that sticks out a bit from the back of the graphics card and might otherwise catch the edge of one of the RAM modules. Moving the RAM over a bit might help clear any obstruction.

While I know that cards with 5 PCI sockets does put the AGP port close to the RAM sockets, this particular revision of the mobo is particulary "tight". See third picture down on this link to see how close they are http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Asus_Socket_478.html

Thanks...

There's no harm in trying. If this is DDR RAM not DDR2, there isn't any rule that requires you to populate a certain slot pair first.

Yes that works fine. It doesnt matter. I have the same motherboard, and ive already tried that switching around stuff. both 1,3 and 2,4 make dual channel mode.

I actually just RMA'd my motherboard but, thats a whole other story.
