Asus P4P800 - Incorrect CPU temp in MBM/Probe?

Hi,

I just got my new PC up and running (Asus P4P800-UAY, Intel P4 "C" 2.4, 512meg Corsair TwinX 3200 in dual channel, WD Raptor drive, GF2 GTS 32meg, 48x24x48 Liteon are all I have in it now).

Anyway I just noticed something very alarming, both motherboard monitor and asusprobe (latest versions) report my case temp around 27 and my CPU @ 85! I immediately powered down thinking the shop didn't attach my SLK-900U properly, took off the side panel of the case and touched the heatsink, it wasn't even warm (I had just been installing applications, no heavy load on PC).

I waited 15 minutes and powered up and went into the BIOS, case temp ~27 and cpu temp 27.5. I booted into Windows and again both MBM and AsusProbe reported 85 as the CPU. I rebooted into the BIOS immediately and it said CPU @ 27.

What gives? I haven't read about any incompatibilities with these programs, I really hope MBM is wrong, the SLK-900U appears to be seated tightly and correctly.

try SpeedFan, its a great little app. see if this makes a diff... at this point, though, i would believe your bios.

eventhough 27°c sounds a little low ( maybe cuz im jealous :) ), 85°c sounds way too high to be a correct reading

what fan do you have on the slk 900u?

Alright did some more playing around. It appears that asusprobe reads the low temps, but the second I load MBM 5, both MBM and asusprobe shoot up to 85! The strangest thing is my case temp is being reported lower than CPU, no idea how this is possible. I'll try speedfan in a second.

Sorry, I have a 92mm Panaflo L1A @ 12v full speed on the heatsink right now, not going to play with slowing it down until I figure out what's going on with this CPU temp hehe.

hmm Speedfan only seems to be able to read my HDD temp (interestingly neither Asusprobe nor MBM can find this one) which is 37 right now (WD Serial ATA Raptor 10k rpm).

Update: have been running two instances of Prime95 torture test (one for each logical CPU on P4 HT) for about an hour. CPU now reading 37 MB reading 33. This seems a bit better but I have trouble believing CPU is only at 37. Currently just have the 120mm default Antec exhaust and the 80mm in the PS which is going at about 1700rpm.

w0w... that is a nice temp, if its being read right ( are u in an air conditioned environment??? ). :Q

sounds like you have issues ( dont take that with too much weight... im no hardware guru )... speedfan should read all sensors automaticlly. go play around with the configure section, but, again it should read all that stuff no prob without configuring. i only hit that button to get rid of some sensor readings i didnt care about.

it just sounds like theres some major weirdness happening with your mobo and its sensors... once again, shop around for other opinions on this... ;)

temps are important

BTW: if those are the correct temps... u are a happy dood!

Yeah, I think there are errors for sure. I'm running with the side panel off right now (doing a bunch of HDD transfers with temp drives) and its giving me 32 MB, 27 CPU. Argh. I'll play with speedfan some more, I hope another P4P800 user can tell me what their experiences are.
