ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe onboard sound issues

Whenever the onboard sound (AC97) is enabled in the bios, the computer gets really, really slow, and all games run at like 5 FPS. But when i disable it and use a PCI sound card everything works right. I talked to someone and they said that it sounded like the video card's (ATI X800Pro and 9800Pro) drivers or something were conflicting with the onboard sound drivers. Anyone else experience this?
 
I have the same board, and a 9800Pro..... I tried what you said and I don't experience any problems. I just use my sound blaster in either case.
