I hooked up a external HD the other day and a windows pop up came up saying something like "This item would perform better with USB2.0. Click here to see available port."

After checking the device manager I see that none of my on board USB ports are showing as 2.0. The only 2.0 I have is from a add on card. I know the motherboard has USB is 2.0.

Anyone with any suggestions on how to fix.

I have uninstalled all and let windows reload them.

Here is a screen shot of the device manager

I am running windows xp pro

sounds like the usb 2.0 support is turned off in the bios for some reason. pop into the bios, under intergrated devices if i remember right, ... too lazy to go grab the manual

Already been in bios and checked it out. It is under the Advanced>USB Configuration menu

Set as below:

USB Function Enabled
Legacy USB Support Auto
USB 2.0 Controller Enabled
USB 2.0 Controller Mode HiSpeed

I have switched USB 2.0 Controller Mode to Full Speed and get the same thing.

Look for a conflict in the device manager under "system". Uninstall all usb devices. Then make sure you install the latest windows service pack. Then reboot and use your motherboard driver cd. I had to manually install usb 2.0 with one board. I selected "have disk" when prompted.

So you have one option left. Go to ASUS site. Get ur latest BIOS update. Flash it; do what ever 'Dahak' said again. Maybe it should work.

Hi,

I've had the exact same problem. Though I've fixed it once in the past and now it's rearing it's head again.

Running a P4P800 as well (not deluxe though). And I had received the same error message, though I forget exactly how I fixed it. I remember surfing regarding the issue and it came down to either a Windows XP issue (I've got SP2 installed as well) or a BIOS.

I recently had to format C: and do a complete reinstall due to virus issues. And now the problem has arisen once again.

All that being said: formatting should not affect the BIOS. Of that I'm pretty sure, though I'm far from being well informed, that the BIOS and Mobo drivers are all stored on the Mobo (thus formating the hard drive wouldn't affect this). So I believe the issue is based off of Windows XP drivers.

I'll be trying intermittently to fix this problem over the next couple of days, but if someone else figures it out first, please post your solution.

Control Panel
System - Hardware Tab - Device Manager
Under "Other Devices" my USB controller had the yellow question mark beside it. Clicked it and then update driver. Driver was updated internally - no web search.

Now, under "USB" in the Device Manager i read the following:
Intel 82801EB USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 24DD
Standard Universal PCI to USB Host Controller (4 lines of this)
USB Composite Device
USB Root Hub (5 lines)

Double Click the "Intel 82801EB..." line
On the "Driver" tab the details are as follows:

Driver Provider: Microsoft
Date: 01/06/2002
Version: 5.1.2600.0
Signer: Microsoft Windows Publisher

I hope that helps.
