ASUS P4P800 Deluxe & Raptor 36GB info & question

I just got the Raptor last wk. I have an old IDE drive that I'm wanting to use for storage & boot from the Raptor. I started working on it over the wkend and here is what happened.

1. Installed the Raptor and left all hd settings in BIOS at default. When booting from the XP cd to reinstall XP, the setup program would see the Raptor. Tried to install to it, but XP wanted to copy files to my old IDE drive then after reboot it reported missing a file. I checked the BIOS & the Raptor wasn't showing up anywhere.

2. Unhooked my old IDE & tried again. During POST the pc beeped, no hd. XP still saw the Raptor.

3. Went into BIOS. Changed the SATA as RAID to yes & enabled the bootrom. This opened up a new menu in the boot section to choose from the hd to pick which would be primary, just like with my dual DVD drives. Did the F6, during install to install intel app acc raid edition, now everthing is working.

Does anyone know another way to set this up? Do you have to use the IAA? I looked on the support cd for the mobo & it also had RAID drivers for promise. These do not show on any menu when you auto run the cd though.

Why did you enable RAID?

Did you set the new drive to be bootable in the boot priority list in the BIOS?

nycxandy: To see if anyone knows a different way to get this setup that might allow me to get more from the Raptor.

Navid: That was the only way I could get it to show up in BIOS so I could change the boot priority to it instead of the IDE drive, unless I messed something in the BIOS screen.

I don't know anything about RAPTOR.

But, I have that exact same motherboard.
I have my XP pro on a Seagate SATA. All I had to do was to make the SATA to be the first in the boot priority list.
I did not have to press f6 during the XP install and did not have to install any drivers for SATA.

What BIOS version do you have?

When you go into BIOS on the first screen that list all your drives, does your SATA show up on that screen?

I couldn't get mine to ever show up there & when I enabled SATA as RAID the last 2 entrys go away from there.

I am using the bios version 1019.

On the first (Main) page of the BIOS, I see my SATA under "Forth IDE Master".

Under IDE configuration, I have selected "Enhanced Mode", and SATA for the second selection. For the "Configure SATA as RAID" selection, I have selected "No".

There are two SATA controllers on the board. One of them (RAID) needs drivers. I thought the other did not and that is why I did not need it.

I have 1018. It wouldn't show up on main page ever. When I get home I might try to flash the BIOS to 1019 & see what happens.

Do you have just the one SATA installed? If so which port on your mobo did you use?

Sorry if I'm turning into a pain. I thought this mobo was suppose to be able to use sata without going through the extra hassles of raid drivers.

I have one SATA and one PATA.
1018 was the same. I did not have any problems with 1018 either.
I have the SATA connected to SATA1.
My Motherboard is P4P800 deluxe, which has only 2 SATA connectors.
I have the pnp on default, whatever it is.

Edit:
I may have made a mistake about your motherboard!
Do you have P4P800 deluxe, like mine. Or, do you have P4P800E?

I have the P4P800 Deluxe. I just got home, flashed the BIOS to 1019 and now it is showing up in BIOS.

Whaooo.

Thanks for your help.

Now I think I might do a reinstall of XP to get rid of IAA.
