Asus P4P800 Deluxe MB...issue...not much time...thx

Wife's computer...on bootup, after the "WinXP" logo on the screen for about 5-10 seconds, monitor goes dark. Push "soft-boot" button, and options screen comes up "Win did not shut down properly...want "normal startup, safemode, safemode w/ networking, etc" ...tried every option...the only one in which I can get to the desktop is in "safe" mode w/no internet.

I changed memory and new video card. All the case fans are working and I vacuumed out the case of dust. I have left the case open all day, so I don't feel it's an overheating issue. Tried "restore-point"... no change. Now, when I re-boot I can hear a "beep-code"...2 beeps, then a delay, then another beep....

I checked the manual...it says nothing about the beep codes and what they mean.

The system:
Asus P4P800 Deluxe MB
Socket 478
Pentium 4 2.6ghz (nothing OC'd)
1 gig memory
nVidia GeForce 6200 AGP video card ( the new one)
WD HD
Win XP Pro

Did you try booting from winxp cd and do a repair? Give it a shot. OR, go into safe mode with networking and download a program that cleans the registry tuneup utilities /reg supreme.

Yeah, it sounds like more of an OS problem than a mobo problem.

That was my favorite s478 motherboard, that thing was a rock.

I wrote I could only get to the desktop in pure "safe" mode....not w/networking...so no internet...'til resolved...

Oops, I though you can get safe mode networking there. Windows repair will do, if not reinstall windows but choose the option where your files etc are still intact, if windows repair doesn't work. I still have my P4C800-E deluxe and indeed they are one of the best s478's mb. With the adapter and dothan they fliy Too bad my adapter died
