ASUS P4G8X Problems

I have a problem with my relatively new computer. Whenever I play Flight Simulator 2002, which is pretty demanding on the CPU, the computer turns off randomly while I'm playing. The computer doesn't turn off completely because the green power light on the front remains on, but it goes silent with the hard drive and all fans turning off and I have to hold the power button for several seconds to turn it off completely and then wait 10 - 15 minutes before it will come back on again. It seems to me like its a heat issue, but I really have no idea. It never happens while doing regular work, but it has happened in games other than Flight Sim. I also am running everything with factory settings, no overclocking.

Anyone experienced this or have any thoughts/ideas?

My comp specs are as follows:
P4 2.4Ghz C1
4x Crucial 256MB PC2700 DDR
ASUS P4G8X Deluxe
VisionTek Xtasy GeForce 4 Ti4400 128MB

Could be an inadequate power supply. Check your specs in the bios "pc health" or similar section. There's a fortron unit with an extra large fan next to the cpu that might help reduce heat buildup in your rig. It's available at newegg for $32.

I would try to set the Asus Probe to record your temps..then start playing the game and after it reboots (or does what it does), then go back in and see if you can see if the temps spiked before they ended..
Could be power supply too..
Maybe try it with only the CD and HDD drives (in case you have several HDD and CD drives), or maybe try it with the side cover off the case to rule out heat problems..

Okay. I took the case off and played my games and it seemed to work fine. Later on, I put the case back on and tried again. About 15-20 mins through a single player StarCraft game, it shut off. I did what you recommended and had ASUS Probe record the temperatures and fan speeds, etc. before the crash.

At the last recorded time before the crash (2:23:00 AM) this is what everything was....

CPU - 54 Degrees Celcius
Motherboard - 42 Degrees Celcius
Intel Factory CPU Fan - 3390 RPM
Power Fan - 3040 RPM
VCore - 1.552

Based on that, any ideas? Are these temperatures too high? Can I rule out the Power Supply (300W) being the problem?

-Thanks

Hmm, the cpu temps are fine, but the motherboard temp seems too high for this board. I've never had mine go over 35, but again, I used AS2 instead of that pink bubblegum they put on.

If you case supports it, get some case fans for both intake and exhaust.
