Hey guys, my friend owns an Asus P4C800 mobo and he has come across a problem for it. It seems that the mobo just suddenly stopped working, and started saying "system fail CPU test" from the onboard diagnostics that comes with the mobo.

Now we have taken all the components and put them on another DFI mobo and they run fine (other than the fact that the DFI mobo has a Vcore drop of .7 on idle) so we can safely say thats its a mobo problem. Now we just wanted to get your guys info or take on this before we scrap it because the mobo is really good and it seems like a waste to just throw it away before we know for sure that it can't be fixed.

Can you get to the bios? Are you able to reset everything to system defaults (ie run at stock speeds) to see if you can boot then? If not, try clearing your CMOS battery by removing it and putting it back in- that will reset all of the motherboard's settings and then it may load even if it didn't POST before. Otherwise you're probably right- the board might be fryed. Good luck!

Ya I tried resetting my CMOS and it still won't post. Its getting really frustrating and the only thing that we haven't tried is chaning PSUs but I don't think that willl matter much as it was working on the same PSU for a long time before and didn't give any problems.

BTW is there any way to get rid of that audio that keeps saying "system error CPU test", in other words how do I remove this audio post w/o doing it through the BIOS but by maybe doing it physically on the mobo itself.

If you can. Try another PSU to be sure. Are there any burn maks on the board by the fets or at the ATX jacks? Are any of the toroid coils discolored? Are any of the caps
swelling, venting or leaning as they weren't before? Remove the board and inspect for
discoloration on the pcb's backside.
If there is no discoloration of the pcb and caps are swelling/venting, it can be repaired to
be as good as or better than new. If close inspection indicates bad board componets, post
pics at badcaps.net and the calvery will arrive ;) Topcat reworks hundreds of boards a month
and the cost is about 1/3 of a new board. He only services the lower 48 & Canada. If your
on the Continent or UK help can be found there.

I have a fairly new P4P-800 in service and a dead one I've been practicing recapping on.
