I tried updating the BIOS in my Asus P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard this afternoon, and here's what happened:
(1) System rebooted automatically after I updated the BIOS (not from Windows, from a CD before booting). But after reboot, I got a CMOS checksum error. So I go into the BIOS to make sure all the settings are correct.
(2) Once I get the BIOS settings back to normal, I save and exit the BIOS. Windows XP (SP2) boots normally--except I forgot to disable the RAID in the BIOS so Windows attempts to install RAID drivers (which I cancel).
(3) I try to go back to the original BIOS on the Asus CD that came with the board. So I shut down WinXP and put in the support CD that came with the board that has the old BIOS. The board seems to flash and update the BIOS (i.e., go back to the old version).
(4) But when I turned it on after going back to the old BIOS, I get an audible "system failure due to overclocking" message--even though I've never overclocked using this board. I get no BIOS screen or any video output.
(5) Now I'm stuck--I can't even get to a screen that allows me to try to fix the BIOS. I get a blank screen and nothing else. It's actually not a blank screen--there's no output whatsoever from the video card.
Where am I going wrong? I've tried moving the CLRTC jumper and removing the motherboard battery to no avail. Could it be that the CPU is fried? Any tips would be appreciated.
