Hi-

This is a brand new build (from the ground up). A clean install of Windows 2003 Server (Fully Updated) on a 36G NOS partition. I have tried the following so far:
- flashed the Bios to the latest (ver 1017)
- downloaded and installed the latest SoundMax drivers (5.12.01.3583 WHQL driver)
- Enabled the on board sound in the bios
- verified the on board jumpers are correctly installed (I am using the rear ports. The front case ports are not connected)
- swapped speakers (as a test)
- checked the obvious (no mute, multimedia enabled under 2003, etc)
- reinstalled everything

The net result is that I still get no sound out of the onboard system (WTF). I searched the Web site, other forums, Google, etc. Basically I have hit a wall. Got a hammer???

My specs are as follows:
-Intel P4 3E GHz 800 FSB 1M L2 Cache
- Asus p4c800-e deluxe
- 2 512MHZ DDR PC-3200 Chips
- 2 WD SATA 120G Drives (Raid 1)
- ATI 9800 All-In-Wonder 128M
- 16 x DVD
- 450W Power Supply
-(No other PCIs currently, no other extenal hookups besides LAN and PS2 Mouse/Keyboard)

Refer to page 2-32 of your owner's manual and confirm that there are jumper caps on the pins shown with blue jumper caps on them in the diagram. If that doesn't prove to be the problem, uh... how about try a desktop OS on there ;)

Yeah, I've checked the jumpers twice already. They are spot on. As for the OS, not going to bail on it just yet. I have a few projects down the road that will require it's use once I solve this issue. I certainly appreciate the posting. Any other thoughts?

Three other thoughts:

1) run a dual-boot WinXP Pro/WS2003 arrangement?

2) see if Windows Update happens to have an updated sound driver for WS2003

3) Throw in a sound card that has WS2003 drivers
