ASUS P4B533V - fan issue?

Finally got all my components yesterday and started my system rebuild last night:

P4 1.6A (4/16/02, Costa Rica), retail HSF , heat sink sanded and lapped with ASIII
ASUS P4B533V mb
512 Mb 2700 true Samsung RAM
Gainward GF4 4400
SB Audigy
Sony 52X CD-ROM
Ricoh MP 9600 DVD/CD-RW
WD 40GB
WD 20GB
Antec True 380W PS

By the time I hooked everything up, it was getting late, so I decided to see if the system would boot up (Win98SE currently installed on HD, will reformat today while installing XP). During boot, the mb detected a hardware error under the Hardware Monitor. It detected the PS fan running at 1200 cpm (mb temp-38C, cpu temp-42C, ambient-26C), which it detected as an error (highlighted in red). The CPU and Chassis Fan Speed appear normal.

Does anyone know if the Antec 380W True PS controls its own fan speed depending on temperature, or is the mb perhaps reading an incorrect speed?

I disabled the reading to continue the post (which worked fine, although Win98SE kept trying to add a raft of new drivers...), then powered down to continue today after work.

Anything I should be worried about here before I continue? Q-Fan Control is disabled right now, BTW.

Thanks,

Der Perfesser

PS: Got some sandpaper per one of the posts here and wet-sanded the retail heatsink w/ 400, 600, 800, 1000 and 1500 grit . Don't know yet if it'll make much difference once I eventually start to OC, but it sure wuz shiny after I got dun! Almost a shame to cover it with AS and install it where noone will see it. The wife said that I don't spend that much time on polishing the brass around the house!

Yes it does! Just like any fans you may have connected to the fan power connector. I *really* wish the sensitivity could be adjusted because mine is running about 1400rpm and my rear case fans are running way too slow right now and it's HOT in here. (I'm short a Y-cable to connect my rear fans to a regular connector right now. 🙁)
