I just put together a computer with the Asus P4B533-V board. How do you remove the heatsink holder in order to install the alpa 8045 heatsink? The retail fan is loud and I have an alpha pal heatsink I want to put in.

Thanks.

Did this on a Epox 4G4A+ and it went pretty well. I followed the procedure outlined Here

Be very careful not to flex the board too much when you get the stock heatsink holder out.

Hope this helps

hehe my bad, it's the 8942. I have several other alphas and got mixed up. I swapped it but I pretty much tore up the heatsink holder. One of the plastic screws wouldn't come out so I went ape on it.

It's a bit quieter with a panaflo l1a on it but I may test a Papst 12dba fan on it though.

Pothead,

I'm switching over to Intel from AMD. Is it possible to install the 8045 into a socket 478 if I dremel in some new holes? I don't have my mobo yet to check for myself.

Thanks.

I think drilling new holes most likely will destroy your mobo, right guys?

The stock heatsink is really good though, the guys here have oced it heavily with the stock heatsink. I like my comp quiet so out in the alpha with a quiet fan.

I will never go back to AMD!!!!! Currently, I have a 3 p4 1.6Ghz (Dells), this new p4 1.8A, a P3 1Ghz, a AMD 1GHz. I'm gonna get rid of the AMD pc. Quieting AMD chips are a pain since they give off a lot of heat. With a pentium, I don't have to really worry about that issue.

8045 is not going to work. Buy the Volcano 7+. It is a tight fit (make sure it is fully seated on the cpu core). You can set the fan speed from Low, Med to High. I think 3K, 5K and 6K+.

Anyone got a bead (to buy in the USA) on the newest P4 board, the P4T533? That is the one with a 32 bit Rimm controller that only requires one rambus rimm.
