Asus P4B533, how to change memory ratio?

Hey guys,
Just got my P4B533 and system parts, need to make sure memory isn't holding back my overclocking. For some reason, both my 1.6A and 2.26B fail to post at about the same 170fsb, and I am suspecting that memory is holding me back. (Or the 2.26B which I bought in the forums is a really sh1tty overclocker, since it fails to post at 170fsb, which is the average overclock in the Overclockers.com database!)
Thanks!

EDIT: partly Asus's problem, the new 1007 & 1008 bioses are supposed to fix this. I'll try it tomorrow.

cpu/memory frequency ratio is right below (next one down) where you set the FSB.The memory timings are in the chip configuration.Set it for 2.5/3/3/7 .170FSB is alot and your chip might not hit that.I can only do maybe150fsb stable with my 1.6a at 1.75V.Try it at 130fsb first and work your way up at default voltage 1.5V.When it doesn't load into windows bumb up the voltage one step and see if it boots to windows.Add 2-4 more fsb and if it doesn't boot to wondows add voltage and repeat.

Well, 170fsb is obviously high for a 1.6A, but it isn't too high for a 2.26B (I have both chips at the moment). According to Overclockers.com, the average 2.26 chip overclocks to 2.9ghz--that's 170fsb right there! If I can't even get my 2.26 to POST at 170, it's a bad sign.

Oh well, I'll try more tomorrow morning with new BIOS :)

If you want 3:4 with your board over 132FSB you need to turn "on" dip switch 6 on your mobo.Set your FSB to 133 and 1:1 ratio in the bios and save and exit.At the hardware detection post shut down your computer.Go in and turn DS6 on,its to the left of the north bridge in that area. Its the only one with 6 switches.Fire up your computer and go into the bios and raise your fsb if you like or not.Ok,1:1 will be 3:4 and 4:3 will be 1:1 after DS6 is enabled.

I thought that only applied to the P4B266 boards?

actually kinda...
but both p4b266 and p4b533 has that ability...just different method

p4b266 only works under jumper mode
disadvantages:
can't adjust bios settings :(
no voltage tweak...only overvolt jumper which gives 0.1v extra

p4b533 works in both jumper and jumperless mode
advantages:
you can adjust everything in bios...:Q

Do you mean flip switch #6 on the box that has six switches? (So switch #6 is ON, and switches labeled #1-5 remain OFF)? Or do you mean to turn on the box itself (So switch #1 is ON and all others, 2-6, are off).
Thanks,
Leo

The only one you touch is number 6 switch the one with the 1-6 dipswitches, turn on only the one switch, number 6.Everything else should be off 1-5.Set FSB to 133 and set 1:1 ratio first.Save and exit the bios and shut the machine down at the post.Go in and flip number 6 switch on,boot back up and go into bios and raise your FSB or whatever need to be.Remember 1:1 is now 3:4 which it will be in already and 4:3 is 1:1 .

Cool, looking to see how you make out.You can just leave it like that.If you want 1:1 than select 4:3 on the ratio.

Can someone explain what this Ratio stuff and FSB is about?

I'm a noob at this, so please be patient with me.. :)

The higher FSB, the better i assume? and the ratio, i have no clue...

The FSB:memory ratio just means how fast your memory runs relative to the front side bus speed. So with 1:1 ratio, if you set your FSB to 133mhz (533 quad-pumped for P4) then your memory also runs at 133mhz (266 ddr). But with a 3:4 ratio, you get your memory running faster by a ratio of 4/3. So again, using 133FSB, memory is now (4/3) * 133 = 177mhz (354 ddr). And yes, maximizing both FSB and memory speed (assuming your mem can handle it) helps increase performance.
