I just crossed the line (AMD to Intel). I now have a P4B533, Northwood P4 2.26 533 FSB, 512MB Samsumg PC2700 DDR, and Antec pp-403 400W power supply.

I ran the rig for 3 days at default voltages (FSB set to 140), without a hickup. The machine ran like a dream, better than any AMD system I have built up to XP 2000+

Anyhow, 3 days past and I was resting on the toilet.......reading my P4B533 manual, and noticed the 12volt connector (square 4 pin) and Easy connector (regular molex) on the board layout. Being an AMD guy, I was not aware of the extra power connections.

My Antec power supply does not have a square 4 pin 12v connector, so I tried using the Easy 12volt molex connector. Bam...........Blue Screen. It tried to boot (I got the horizontal white lines on the bottom, like Win2K, then the BSD). After disconnecting the molex connector, the machine runs like a dream again.

Do I really need the extra 12volt connection for my P4 rig? Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks

Thanks FAQ Man. But that still does not explain my blue screen after plugging a power supply connector into the ASUS P4B533's EZ plug.

Thanks.

ya gone and pissed it off alrighty!

since you dont have a real p4 psu - cut power and plug in the ezplug.
try to boot, try again, and again, asus boards are funny like that.

if it really wont boot after 5 or 6 tries in a row just bite it and get a real PSU.

dont use all 3 plugs on a p4b533.
only p4b266 boards should use all 3 plugs at once.

HTH :)

(sorry it took me so long to reply - i dont usually check the mobo forum)
